I know everyone’s probably past thanksgiving and on to the next holiday, but a quick recap of the holiday for me. I was really sad that I couldn’t be with my family and in a place where no one appreciates this holiday. But some American friends decided to get a dinner together. We had about 20 people, a mixed group of foreigns and locals with maybe 10 percent being american. The night ended up being a blast. A local restaurant made us a full meal with turkey, punk-in pie (just in case, that’s a punk rock mohawk that they are making in the above photo) and cranberry sauce, the most important part. We sat on a balcony facing the ocean with the sound of the waves in the background. muy muy tranquilo… I had brought my guitar and so after dinner a few of us played the guitar and sang. It was familiar enough to feel like thanksgiving but different enough to enjoy the adventure of it. So yeah, happy thanksgiving everyone!

I went surfing today at a different beach and the waves….they did not like me.  I could barely swim out past the first breaking point.  The waves, they tried to eat me.  I left with my arm all cut up, a bump on my head and my pride a little hurt.  But tomorrow, I will try again.  un poco a poco…

The pictures aren’t that great, but this cute little bungalow is my little room. It’s cozy but comfortable, has it’s own bathroom, a bed, cabinet and not much else.

it feels strange being here where no one has any idea what this holiday is about. i tried to explain it in spanish today to my classmates (who the heck knows the word for pilgrim in spanish??) but i’m not sure if they got it all. But we are having a dinner that supposibly will have turkey and cranberry sauce (my favorite part!). I think there will be only about 5 americans out of 20 people but whatever. It’ll be like the thanksgivings of old.
